Dr. Patricia Morell grew up in San Juan Puerto Rico. She attended Loyola University in New Orleans for her bachelors and Pennsylvania College of Optometry for her doctorate degree. Graduating in 1986, she started her career in the United States Navy specializing in primary care and ocular disease. Dr. Morell was an adjunct professor for the University of Houston from 1989 to 1992.
She left active duty in 1992 and joined the Naval reserves where she practiced optometry at different military locations. Some of her career highlights included being a trained investigator for research studies at the Navy Refractive Surgery Center in San Diego and Bethesda, doing a humanitarian mission, and taking care of wounded soldiers at Naval Hospital Bethesda. After 20 years she retired from the Navy Reserves with the rank of Commander. Following her military spouse, Dr. Morell practiced optometry in private practices all over the country.
She has worked from the Florida Keys since 2013. In 2016 she joined her husband on a sabbatical for 2 years sailing in the Caribbean. Now Dr. Morell is back and she looks forward to being your optometrist at Key West Optical. She is bilingual. In her spare time she likes to go spear fishing, lobstering and swimming. She is married to Dr. Andrew Engle and they have two children.
